Atlas Compass Composite

What Hi Fi award

What Hi Fi Oct 2008

The most expensive cable here cuts a smart enough figure, the red casing covering a multi strandded OCC copper cable, complete with a separate casing and isolating materials. The Compass also uses the Company's own non-compressing plugs, which, Atlas says, won't affect the integrity of the cable. Up and running, it's clear we're getting the best run through of our test scenes that we've heard so far, with more detail than ever being revealed and a wide open soundscape. Expensive but worth it.

What Hi Fi Aug. 2002

"We've been impressed with every Atlas cable we've come across so far and the Compass is no different. It's simple looking, buta well designed-designed-blend of plugs and conductors has produced excellent results."

" While no cable can adddetail the Compass loses far less of it than most similarly priced rivals. Add excellent dynamics, fine timing and rock solid attack into the equation, and we have no doubts in recommending this cable very highly indeed."

Hi Fi Choice Jan 2007 (Best Buy).

"Differences between 75-Ohm digital interconnects are typically not enormous, but they are often audible. With various transport and DAC combinations we tried, this cable consistently gave better fine detail and imaging than cheap giveaway cables, and indeed it held up pretty well against a 'reference' hand made cable of very extravagant construction,"

"At this price we'd say this cable is fine value."

The Atlas Fibre optic is a substantial, solid feelingcable, which while less malleable than some of it's lighter rivals, feels built to last. The precision polished connections add to the superior feel. Listening to the Blue-ray disc of S.W.A.T., performance is just as good, with it revealing a dynamic sound, with fast, explosive effects alongside authoritative detailed dialogue. if you baulk at spending cash on cables, this is a fine budget choice.
