The Atlas Balanced transformer range is entirely quiet and hum free; it can be used in the listening room without disturbing listening pleasure.
The huge transformers will sustain loads of 1,000, 1,500 or 2,000 watts according to the model in use. This 1 kVA model will take a load of 1,000 watts. As a rule of thumb, it's likely to be able to supply a power to a system consisting of a couple of source components and amplifier up to about 250 Watts, however in practice it's always better to check the consumption figures supplied by the respective manufacturers.
The transformers are supplied with an Atlas four way power strip that's star wired on each outlet. The units are supplied with Eos power cords between the transformer and the four way power strip. The Transformer is powered with an Eos cable from the wall outlet. The substantially built four way power strip can reject RFI and EMI. It may be specified for Schuko European or UK plugs. An over voltage surge protector is built into the transformer.
The benefit of a true balanced voltage is that it has a high degree of distortion rejection, Thus all mains-related equipment is able to work better without mains noise or interference.
The power from the wall outlet will be either 220 volts or 230 Volts on live and O volts on the neutral. The balanced transformer splits the incoming voltage in to two equal halves of 110 Volts or 115 Volts. These two components 110/115 volts and 0 volts are out of phase. (different polarity). When they're re-joined the noise on the live 110/115 volt leg is effectively cancelled by noise on the 0 volt neutral leg and a clean 230 or 220 supply is provided. No noise artifacts are carried on to the output, hence clean distortion free power.
In use, the first striking feature of the soud is the improved dynamics with better detail and an air around instruments together with an ambience such as you hear in a concert hall. When used with a home cinema set up the picture quality improves with better contrast and colour saturation.
Most recording studios use balanced power transformers; they appreciate the improvements they provide; now with the totally silent Atlas transformer, for the first time it's possible to use one in the listening room without needing to put up with an irritating transformer hum.
